Brookynella KILLING MY FISH ONE BY ONE!! HELP
I really need some advice!!! I bought two wild caught clowns that had brookynella.... Now 9 fish including them have died! its only been like 2-3 weeks since the bad clowns were put in!
I have no idea what to do i still have a yellow tang and a fox face in the tank and they both are eating and acting normal... i dont know if i need to take them out of the tank or if that will stress them out even more!? This is very frustrating to me not only because of the money ive lost but i dont want anymore fish to die... I try and keep the tank clean and i do 20% water changes every week. I have been supplementing spirilina food with garlic extreme and selcom. Water prameters are all in check: 0 ammonia 0 nitrite 10 nitrate 1.025 salinity 79 degrees The tank is a 90 gallon with a 55 gallon sump. *Fish that ive lost: (In order) 2 wild clowns (brought brookynella in my tank!) 2 ocellaris clowns (clowns ive had for 5 months) 2 mocha clowns (the place replaced the two that died, "bad shippment" my stupidity that i didnt know it was brook) So angry with my self for not QT'ing.. i will be from now on. 1 Blue spotted tang 1 Royal gramma 1 bi-color blenny (today) I AM WILLING TO DO WHATEVER I HAVE TO DO TO KEEP THESE GUYS ALIVE!... Qt, uv sterilizer... Please give me some advice.. i know this disease is NASTY, kills so fast! |

I assume you didn't use a QT regimen before putting the clowns in the DT? If this is the case, the clowns may have brought brooklynella in, but you allowed it in by not quarantining. I know of no way of eliminating brook other than formalin, and products that contain formalin. You'll have to treat them, as in the above posts, and keep them in another tank, you'll need a good size tank, and the DT will have to remain fishless for 6+ weeks I''d go fishless for 9+ weeks, though. Ich commonly appears with brook, because of the weakened fish, and ich needs longer to die off in a fishless system.
When this is over, and you'll probably lose some fish, Use a QT with every new fish and avoid the problem from happening again. Also, I'd forget the idea that stress from moving a fish is dangerous. Moving fish is a whole lot less "stressful" than dying. I'd also limit your tank to one pair of clowns. Adult, mated clowns don't tolerate any other clowns. Also, not trying to pile on; but, IMO, your tank was way over-stocked.

A friend of mine has a maroon that had brook, gave her some of my quinine sulfate to treat it with and it worked very well. This fish was a bad store rescue. I thought the fish was going to die.

Thanks.... I have the yellow tang and the fox face in my qt tank (Day 2).... I gave them a freshwater dip and and treating with quick cure... they seem to be doing pretty good! Thank god! i should have done this sooner with the others.
Well i have learned a hard lesson and i will be qt'ing all of my fish for a month before adding them to the display tank!! Hopefully keeping them in a 10 gallon qt for a good 4-6 week, until the tank has ran fallow long enough! If you have any more advice about treatment or on running a fallow tank... It shouldn't affect my corals or anemones should it?? Thanks! |

Inverts are fine in a fallow tank, just feed them. Be sure to never let anything wet touch the DT after being in the QT.
