what is this? its all over my grass and its growing out of my sand bed as well. theres nothing in my tank right now except sand and live rocks. the tank is about 1.5 months old and already cycled. i just started seeing this about 2 days ago. i didnt start running my lights until about a week ago.

7AM to 10PM is attinics, and 11AM to 5PM daylight.
i checked my parameters a couple days ago
0 ammonia
0 nitrite
5 to 10 nitrate
PH 8.04 but its at 8.19 now
temperature is a little warm these few days and is hovering at around 84F
Calcium 466
ALK 172
Magnesium 1160

No , you need good water movement from powerheads and low nitrates. Where's your water from?

Looks like GHA. I had a massive outbreak too when my tank was done cycling. I added some CUC and a week later it was mostly gone.

you nitrate is high

also add a cuc and cut back on ur feeding a little of that is okay but from the picture it looks like to much and growing on sand bed might mean over feeding

This is typical of new tanks. Keep water parameters in check & stable, get a clean up crew, and have patience. We have nitrates & no algae, so that's not as sure of an indicator as people make it out to be.

Sushi is spot on, however I can't tell if that's film algae or GHA, film algae will ALWAYS be present, so get used to the mag-float procedure & if it is GHA, get a clean up crew & curb your feedings. It would be helpful to know what size tank, how many fish & how often you feed. BTW, keep that temperature in check, 84 degrees is my danger zone, I know others will say that is acceptable but the margin for error above that temp. is very limited in my experience.

Wow, no livestock & no feeding? There must be some sort of phosphate or nitrate source to grow GHA on your glass that quickly, try reducing the light cycle for a while. Did you cure the live rock in that tank, if so that could be the fuel, if that is the case then this is just a normal beginning & the algae should subside on it's own when the phosphates are used up, providing you are not introducing more.

What kind of rock is that? I'm guessing you have nutrients in your source water or leaching from your rock. Nontheless, this step is normal. What did you get for CUC?

i bought pre cured live rocks. got the bali alor nano rocks from aquacon.com and purchased some tonga and figi live rocks from my LFS. i will try to kill my lights and just run moonlights for a few days and see if it fixes the problem. but what if it goes away and then comes back once i set turn my lights back on?
