Missing kole tang

Got a kole tang at 7 pm Thursday night, acclimated him for over an hour, he was doing good, swimming around and such. This morning I took a peek, he looked great so I put some nori on a clip and went to work. Came home 9 hours later the nori hadn't been touched and the tang was no where to be found. Overflow, which would be impossible but I looked anyways, sump, moved all the furniture and looked all over the floor, my rock is aquascaped on pvc, I probed around the various structures, nada. It's a corner tank, with 2 clownfish who are doing great, some small zooanthids, a clean up crew of snails , 1 small emerald crab, and some small hermits..I've read about disappearing fish, but my third fish ever?.. What the heck!..I have no anenomies, no shrimp, nothing weird going on, no ammonia, nitrite or nitrate as of now using salifert tests. What now? Could he be wedged in a rock hiding? Or dead? My snails and crabs are well disbursed around the tank and not gathered anywhere..normal for a fish to dissapear?

It is probably hiding somewhere in the rocks. Give him a day or so to get used to the new surroundings. Have you tried baiting him with a little food to see if he comes out?

More than likely hiding. Fish are the best hoo dini's!

He wil probablyu come out in a fe days at most. Try to feed a little extra to make sure maybe some will float his way!

My kole did that for a few days. He was very shy and would dash into the rock work if I got within 8 feet of the tank. Now he will take pellets from my fingers. Just give him time.

Did you find him yet??? When stressed they can lie next to a rock & be hard to find....Were any other fish harassing him? They are beautiful fish!!!

Wow!! I'm going to name this fish Houdini , he came out this morning, I'm not sure from where, I'm convinced he can cloak himself, or there's a secret portal to another world inside my tank..they must really be able to squeeze into some tight places. Thanks for all the responses

Nice to hear you found him. I have a houdini as well... Thought for sure he was a goner.

NOPE.. Went down one morning to see him looking for breakfast.

Woke up this morning and my tomini tang is nowhere to be found. Didn't come out to eat either. Hopefully it's just hiding in a rock where I can't see.
