what kind of snail is this?
not sure what kind of snail this is but thought it looked kind of neat. probably about 1 1/2" in size.

was told it was a turbo but didn't think they had coralline shells.

It looks like your basic turbo snail to me. Given time, any shell will develop coralline algae on it.

I was thinking Turbo as well. Yeah, once they're in your tank long enough, they'll eventually be encrusted with all kinds of coralline algae.
