Softie dying..which metal halide fixture is the best?

Hi there my green star polyp seems like is dying or fading with the current fixture that I have.its a marineland led fixture.i attached the gsp on a rock on the bottom of the tank which is lower on one end and 4 inches higher on the other.the polyps on the higher end are more of a nicer green while on the other end they're yellowish and lately not opening at all.are they not getting enough light?now I know the GSP shouldn't need that much light and I'm planning to keep mostly LPS in the future so ......I was thinking to go with a MH but I have no idea which one to get.anyone can give me a good advice regarding the fixture and bulb itself?thanks a lot

Have you given any thought to LED, cheaper to run, depending on the LED excellent light source and no heat issues? Also, could you share a little more about your system - size of the tank depth of the lighting to cover, etc.

Tank depth 24" .i have a marineland reef bright Led fixture which has 24 1w LED and 4 1w blue led's...

Sounds to me like not enough light. Any way you can move the rock rather than upgrade a lighting system? GSP definitely like light, not sure why people think otherwise. I had a frag that wouldn't grow at all for a year, and actually started receding. I moved it 4 inches out of the corner and 1 inch higher & it took off.

Well maybe someone can tell me what is wrong but my GSP fully opened up after a few hours on the lower part of the rock while the higher side of the rock is starting to retract.Is it a normal behavior?I dont know what to believe

It's normal for corals to close some days or when the lights first come on or if something touches them, but you suggested it was more than that because you were worried about coloration. I can't speak for anyone else, but I assumed it had been days or weeks, not just a few hours based on you saying "lately." We can't see your tank & you didn't provide pics, so we can only guess based on the info provided. There are very few definite answers in this hobby, too many variables.

It would definitely help if you could add some pics.
I don't think the marineland leds are very strong so it could be lighting. I know mine retract if something touches them or if there is high flow directed their way.

From what I have read, those don't put out as much light as other more expensive LED's like Radion, Razor or even the Chinese LED's, all ow which are all at least 3 watt LED's.

i can attest to the marinelands beings lower quality leds. they only use 1 watt leds in them, so they cant compare to most others. when i switched from one of those to a diy the difference was staggering
