Coralife Halide Ballasts, are they electronic and how to tell?
I am seeing a lot of black stuff in my bulbs, which I assume is from striking. This tells me maybe they are not electronic? Before I go through the trouble of changing them over to electronic ballasts, I want to check them to make sure they are whatever they are. When I open them up, what am I looking for that will give it away as to what they are?

Magnetic ballast rattles and hums during turn on. They are also heavy as they are made with chunks of metal.
