newbie with questions about sump and fuge
I am completely new to this hobby. I've been doing a lot of research about sump with refugiums within one tank but they all seem a bit complicated.
I am purchasing a 65 gallon tank to set up a reef and fish aquarium. My question is about the sump. Attached is a picture of the sump I would like to purchase. The size is 30"x12.5"x17H. Are there enough compartments to use one of them as a refugium? Or do I need to add another compartment? If I need to add a compartment, please tell me where, how big should it be, and in which direction the water flow will be? Here is the pic: acrylic sump.jpg Thanks for any advise you can provide. |

Thats the same fuge setup that I have, fuge in the center, skimmer on the left and return on the right side. It works great for me.

Thanks Diver4life. Questions though...
1)When looking at the attached picture of the sump, is the inlet supposed to drain into the left chamber? 2)Does your inlet pipe have a filter bag or sock attached? 3)Did you put your protein skimmer on top of the egg crate? 4)What is the egg crate for? 5)Is it ok for the protein skimmer to be in the same chamber as the inlet? 6)Do you use and mechanical filter trays or sponges squeezed between the baffles? 7)How do you keep the return pump from sucking in any particles or getting clogged? Sorry for all the questions but I really am brand new to this. I appreciate any input/advice from you or anyone out there. |

Care to share your build details with me?
I am getting a 75 g and the guy is tossing in the overflow and the plumbing. all I need is the sump. I have a spare 20 gallon tank I could possibly, use but where to baffle and even how to procure the parts/partitions for 2 baffles, baffle me. Is a 20 gallon tall, enough physical space for the pump, skimmer and baffles or should I create a 30 g as you did? Thanks for the advice. ps, who are the girls in your avatar, if I may ask? |
