May need some help.
Working on cycling my 56 gallon column tank for the first time. Was getting myself prepared to do my first 20% water change coming up in a couple of days. I bought one of those pumps that you attach to a drill, thought it might be a good way to get the water out for the change. And Yes I know I made a huge mistake here....but I dunked the pump in my tank just to make sure it worked...but I didn't realize there was grease in the pump. So as soon as I turned the pump, it shot grease all over the inside of my tank. I immediatly turned everything off and drained about 80 percent of the water and skimmed the top to get all the floating stuff out... then refilled my tank. Luckly I have no fish or corals, in the tank yet...so if anything I just really set myself back in the cycling process. I will probably do at least on more major water change now before I put anything in the tank. Is there any suggestions on anything else that I need to do.
Oh I forgot one more step taken...while the tank was almost empty I cleaned the inside glass with vinagar water, hoping to get anything that may be stuck to the glass Thanks |

Run carbon, preferably in a reactor but a bag with plenty of water flow over it will work.
