Sand solidified!

About 5 months since setup, the sand in the refugium has solidified '3in deep-top 1in approx solid' I used fine aragonite, if I use a lot of pressure it breaks, however hesitant to do this and disturb everything. The same sand in the DT is good and loose. Can I break it up? or is it best to leave it alone? thank you.

After you break it up I'd drop a nassarius or 2 in there to keep it loose.
