Overflow/Return on a Drilled 110g Acrylic Tank
Hi Everyone,
Just got a great deal on a used acrylic tank locally and want to know the best way I can plumb it for an overflow/return. Basically it's 110g (72x20x18), and because it was previously used as a freshwater system, holes have been drilled on the bottom for an under-gravel canister filter system. It has 3 holes on the bottom, 2 of them are situated towards the right, and 1 towards the left. All 3 holes are in the center of the tank. I'd like to try and utilize these holes instead of drilling new holes if possible. I have a attached a 3D model of the tank and you can see the hole placement. Whats the best way to set it up? 2 Overflows and 1 return? What type of overflow standpipe should I look into? Thanks! |

I have almost the exact same situation. I have a 150 (72x28x18) that had three holes drilled in the bottom. I am going to seal them up with plugged bulkheads and drill new holes for an external overflow system. To me, that seems to be the best way to do it. Getting a used tank cheap is one step, but that means more effort and labor to make it into the tank you really want. Let me know what you decide, as I would love to bounce ideas off you.
