Lost a clown...

I noticed that one of my clowns was swimming alone today. After searching for a while I finally found his partner on the floor completely dried out. My wife mentioned that one of my dogs was acting weird and whining by that corner. Is it common for clowns to jump? I haven't noticed any bullying by tank mates. Also, I would like to add another clown. I like how they pair. The one I still have is young and not fully grown yet.

Any fish can jump out, that being said, Clown Fish are known jumpers, a lid is always a good idea, even if it's just contructed from a mesh material such as bird netting. I would venture that any new Clown Fish added would be subjected to some aggression from your established one, but in time they will likely pair up.

If your clown is still juvenile there will be some aggression untill one becomes dominant (and will become female) the other will stay male

Thanks for the replies. Any specific tips for introducing a new clown into the tank, or should I just let the two of them work it out?

In the case of Clown Fish, I would just let them work it out, with a larger or more aggressive species, I might suggest a tank divider or rockscape rearrangement, but not in this case. Good luck.

Bulk Reef Supply carries 1/4" clear netting. You can make your own tank cover with a DIY screen kit from your home improvement store.

I take them both and put them in a bucket together for a while, an environment new to both, very scary and traumatic for them, after about 12 hours in the bucket they go into a small tank that neither have seen before, Like a acclimation container, make sure they can't see the tank the one used to be in. but have plenty of water flow and okay for 2 days in there.
If the only tank you have to put them in is the original one that you took the big clown out of, you have to make that tank unrecognizable to it. move rocks, change water flow patterns, add a few rocks maybe, just so nothing is the same. Then when you add them they will stick together and be best buddies. This has worked for me every time.

Will you be quarantining your new fish?

clowns can jump. all fish can jump in given conditions. aggression, toxic water etc can cause any fish to go into survival mode and jump.
