Need help quick! Torch may have brown jelly, pics
I've never fragged anything before. My torch has 2 heads that have been retracted for about a week now. I did put a small powerhead on the opposite side of my tank to increase the flow about a month ago.
I noticed this morning, that the two heads seem to be dying. From what I've read, I should frag them off? At the stony base? Do I pull the whole thing out of the tank to do it? Use an Xacto blade? I'm going to check my parameters as soon as I post this, so I can respond to those questions in a minute, but I wanted to get the pics up right now so I can get some responses if I need to do some immediate surgery. Thanks. Front side Backside Side view

Salinity: 1.024
Temp: 79 ph: 7.8 Amm: .25 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 20 Calcium: 400 Alk: 11 Phos: .25 I suspect I have been overfeeding. I have added Prime to bring my Amm back to zero. I dosed for Calcium to raise it. Normal is 420. I have a bottle of Revive Coral Cleaner. Should I use it? When I originally dipped my hammer in it before putting in my tank, it really didn't like it at all. I heard once that the dose should be 1/2 for LPS. Should I dip my torch? Frag the bad part, dip it and see if it lives? Any other input?

Well, I seem to be talking to myself here, so I'm going by the seat of my pants.
I took the torch out of the tank, put it in tank water and blew the brown, dying flesh out with a turkey baster. It came out very easily. Then I rinsed it off in a separate bowl full of tank water before placing it back into my tank. I've reduced the flow that was directed at it as well. I anticipate some more die off perhaps, but guess it's a waiting game at the moment.

What is killing your torch is the ammonia and the high phosphate levels. A cycled tank should have no ammonia. How old is the tank? Stop any sort of feeding. You should do a 25% water change. You should remove the coral to a tank with good parameters. If you don't, you will lose the coral.
