how do you know if your tank has a stray elec current?

so, my fish are acting kind of weird all of a sudden and I was just wondering...

You might be able to use a volt meter to measure something like that. Did you change anything recently?

Is your equipment on a GFI outlet? A properly working GFI outlet will protect against most stray currents. A voltmeter is just that - it measures voltage, not current. Put it in your tank and it will likely measure something. Whether that something is significant and/or an issue is another thing.
