Logistics questions...
Hi guys,
I'm posting this question, in the good spirit and under the assumption that this section I'm allowed to ask dumb questions, as I really would like a feedback. So here we go: I'm about to put Sand and Rock and start to cycle the tank but I have already filled it with RO/DI water for initial Leaking test...which has the pump running since it got filled. I initially thought that I would have to dump all the 150 Gal water but I realized that I actually could mix salt to the water in the tank, get a bunch of brutes on HD, storage the water there while I'm "aquascaping" and send the water back to the Aquarium, already Salted...last but not least, give a nice wash and return the brutes to HD as will not need that much of them. Is there something wrong with my idea here? am I missing something? in a nut shell, the benefits are: - Don't waste the RO/DI water - this would be the only container big enough to mix that much of water (actually will have some spare after the sand bed and rocks) - almost not money invested to get this done. (as I'm returning the Brutes) - Could have a really good control on the salinity in that large scale.... thanks in advance!

If there is no sand or rock in the tank, you could just mix the salt in the tank with your RODI water. Also, you may want to keep a brute trash can or two for making RODI/Saltwater.

Mix the salt in the tank, just add the salt SLOWLY so it mixes properly. ..1 or 2 brutes should be enough to store the water since you can aquascape with water in the tank. In fact I prefer it so that you don't get a ton of stuck air or shifting when you add the water later. You're going to make a mess no matter what. Having brutes around for good will be nice for you to make WC water and/or store RO as well as have emergency RO. I have two 55g drums in my basement that are full (or nearly) at all times: one with RO/DI, and one with RO/DI and salt (and heated in the winter).
