Help me buy a new skimmer tonight...
I'm fed up with my current skimmer, MSX200 w/ sicce psk2500. Most people are aware of the start up problems mainly associated with the mesh mods. Because of that I changed to the Red Devil pinwheel. Still the same issue, not as bad but still there. I know I can upgrade to a BB pump, but that still won't help the problem of skimmer doing good one day to being low the next, to overflowing the next. Very inconsistent. I could probably go with a gate valve for more fine tuning, but that puts me at the 250 mark in upgrades.
I just want to go new and stop messing around with this thing. My tank is a 125 w/ 40 gallon sump. Medium stocked, mostly LPS. I'm steering towards a SRO 2000int. I'd like some other options, but nothing with too big a footprint. I have 17 x 11 x 23 to work with, I really like the size of the SRO, but if I can get something with better performance for under 400, I'd be interested. I'd like to order tonight, so light up this thread. Oh yeah...I don't want a Sicce pump. |

I really like my SRO's on a 110g softie and 150g lps. Hard to beat price and performance, with a 3 year warranty on the pump.
110g 150g

2000int is good. other options reef dyamics ins135 seaside aquatics cs8. the cs8is a nice easy to tune skimmer... holds a good dry foam even when oversized for the system. not sure footprint wise but the sro diablo200 might be a nice choice if it fits. the reef dynamics is also a soid workhorse and is a set and forget affair after break in. the psk1000 is a solid pump without startp issues vs the old 2500. chances are the current skimmer is too large with the curent pinwheel drawing too much air for the bioload. I would get a skimmer in the 600 to 750lph air range for a more stable foamhead.
