I have one running at about half power on a 24x24x24 cube. AI Sol lights are more intense than they appear (as with most LED systems). I think two would be good for you to start. It all depends on what is in the tank and where.

Why not? How you choose to create the light is less important than the quality of light produced. MH and T5 are the staple with LEDs premiering as stand alone systems but lots of folks are having difficulty dialing in LEDs. Maybe the LED and T5 combo is the best of both worlds. Eleven months into my AI Sol and I am still searching for the "sweet spot"!

On a 36”L you will probably need two depending on how high they are mounted and if you run them parallel to the front length.
Everyone told me that two AIs would be all I would need for my standard 75gl (48x18x20h) mounting 11” awl. That proved very untrue...just bought the third one tonight and yes, now it looks good. My lfs has a 180gl tank (6'l x 24” h) and they got away with just four...but they made a custom mount so they could mount diagonally. I seriously doubt you can get away with one unless you change all the optics to 70 degrees and hang it high. |
