LED lighting and Beam Angles

I wanted to share this writeup with you all. It is pretty good and begins to describe beam angle versus optics. I know there has been discussion around this on various threads. Here is an excerpt...

The intensity of the light can be improved by the use of the lens. If we look at the construction of the LED, like the one in the following picture, you can see that light can be focused by use of an external lens that is attached to the outer packaging. This focuses light from the LED chip itself and provides a specific beam shape and direction.
