i have algae on the back wall of my aquarium
should i take it off or leave it? i just set up the aquarium about 3 months ago and never took the algae off the back wall is this inhibiting the coralline algae from growing?? thank you for any help

i started with all dead rock.... 70lbs worth and i have a 32g sump with a refugium with about 15 lbs of rock in there..
temp 77.7-78 ph 8.0 - 8.2 mag 1290 cal 450 alk 8.0 salt 1.026 n02 0 no3 0 stocked with 2 blk and white clowns and 2 damsels, a cuc and one blood shripm.... led lighting diy from rapid led 126 total watts..... 14 white 14 royal and a mixed chain with 6 blue 4 green and 4 uv...... |

its seeding your tank through fragments for future problems. at all times algae should be removed, and then you can use phosphate inhibitors to prevent regrowth. They aren't removers, they are preventers, so Id get out the razor blade and go to town.

this is more like a light film algae which can be taken off with an brush i will do it, should i break it up and then do a water change after that? thank you brandon

I like to remove it without leaving it in the tank. sounds like the usual diatoms or cyano, some leave it it. Since I spend most of my time helping fix problem algae wrecked tanks I recommend not risking it since removal is so easy. what we've done before is put a razor blade on the end of a dowel, then run a siphone hose zip tied on it down to the end, so that as you are scraping it off the siphon is pulling it out, maybe that will help.
others just stir it up in the tank and let filters/socks remove it then change those out |

is it that brown type? Brandon is right if you leave the hair algae on the back glass, it will bring trouble and indicate something is producing phosphates. I leave my back glass alone. I can't really clean it due to the coralline anyways.

thank you alex i just removed it, its has been on the back glass for 3 months and i thought it might be inhibiting my coralline growth.... but my p04 readings have been zero from the start....
