SRO 3000int on a 150 gallon system?
I just bought this skimmer about 3 months ago. I hate to sell it and take a loss so I was wondering if it would work on a 150 gallon system? Tank will be full of rock and Macro Algae, two clowns, one Anemone and two wrasses. Keeping a low maintain system for a while. What do you think? Will it work properly?
Thanks

I use the 2000 Int on my 150, with LPS and only 5-6 small fish, and it works great. I would use it if I were you. Just know at times, it may be idle.

Was just worried it would be to big and not work as efficiently as it should. I guess if it doesn't work then worry about selling it.
Thanks

You will start out small, but you will always add to it. It is just our nature!!
Then, you have enough skimmer to handle whatever you throw at it.

Use it, the worst thing that could happen is the skimmer would idle( not produce any skimmate) but that would be a good thing, it is a sign the skimmer caught up to the bio load

Not to Hijack the thread, but for everyone using an SRO 3000 int, how large a tank/system would you use it on?
I'm about to order a new Display Tank (240ish gallon 80" tank) and have been trying to decide between the SRO 3000 and 5000 internal cones. I don't want to overskim (as that can cause it's own problems), but will likely end up with a heavily stocked tank so don't want a skimmer that's too small. There will also be a basement sump (a 120 with about 70-80 gal) that will hold the skimmer, etc. and a 35 gal frag tank. Thoughts? SRO 3000 Int Cone with a neck cleaner or an SRO 5000 Int Cone with or without a neck cleaner? How much effect does the neck cleaner have on a skimmer's efficiency? Thanks and Cheers, K. |

IMO the EXT model is more efficient than the INT or SSS models and if you don't have the room they can be run in a sump, if I could do it again that's what I would be doing, I think the BB pumps are better as recirc pump as opposed as a water draw pump. That was one of the main reasons I oversized my skimmer, I knew the BB3000 didn't have enough water draw for my application

You are very welcome. Mine runs on a 150 with LPS, lots of live rock, 5-6 small fish. Here is a terrible pic

I run a 3000 on a 180 and think it's over-sized. If I don't keep a large bio-load the skimmer idles and doesn't run correctly. I'd use the 2000 on a 150.

Thank you both for the comments. Looks like the 2000 is definitely the way to go for me.

My 2000 in my 110 total water just works on the other lower side...I think 150 would be perfect as well.

So for those of you using the SRO skimmers in a deeper sump, what are you using to raise it? Does raising it increase the vibration or noise of the pump?

This is what I did and then what I changed too.
I called tech at Reef Octopus because I have an XP2000SSS and found that Following the instructions confusing. Since the pump sits underneath I wondered where exactly is the 6 inches supposed to be. Well they said the whole body (that includes the pump in the bottom chamber ) has to sit in 6 inches. LOL well for me that did not work... That put the whole chamber above water level.I could open it all the way and get no bubbles even half way up. LOL the bottom pump chamber is 5 3/4 inches alone. If the Skimmer were put in 6 inches of water the pump almost suck a whirl pool of air. So this is my personal solution. I have my sump chamber maintained at a perfect 10 ICHES and I sit the whole XP2000SSS right on the bottom. this gives me almost exactly a gate half way open to achieve a perfect skim, allowing me to adjust either way. The water line sits exactly 4 inches above the white bottom plate where the cone angle starts. the pump sits in the basement bellow this plate. It ROCKS at this level for me. An SRO 2000INT would be different though.

I'll just have to work on this once I get the skimmer. I will have some extra acrylic from my old sump so I should be able to come up with something like azjohnny suggested.
