40 breeder cuc. too much/little?

I have a 40B with hob skimmer and hob filter that has cycled and been up and running a few weeks now. Need to add cuc. All that is in there right now are 6-8 dwarf blue leg hermits, 2 golf ball sized turbo snails and 1 astra snail and a Sally light foot.

Here is what I was looking at on reefs 2 go. Want thoughts?

10 Nassarius Snails
10 Cerith Snails
5 Turbo Snails
20 Blue Leg Hermit Crabs
5 Mexican Red Leg Hermit Crabs

I have a 55g and have less than that! I currently have 1 turbo, 4 nassarius, 1 astrea, 1 blue legged hermit and 1 zebra hermit. oh and a fighting conch and urchin
I started with 4 turbos, 3 astrea, 3 trochus, 6 nassarius, 5 cerith, 4 blue legs, 1 yellow tipped, zebra, had peppermints and.... some others!!!!
this last purchase was well over a year ago. I have finally learned after replacing countless hermits and snails (and reading here on RC) that my tank just can't handle feeding more than what I have!
tanks tend to deplete whats not needed.. you will most certainly lose about 90% within a year if not a few months. Only get what you really want in the tank (looks neat, will help, etc) and leave the rest! I would say maybe only get a couple nassarius to help with your sandbed and just enjoy what you have!! maybe another astrea. and hopefully you won't lose any to starvation...

Open to suggestions. Need to get my cuc soon. Getting a bit of a bloom.

what kind of bloom?
more than likely it is just the "new tank" algae bloom and should come and go. keep an eye on your phosphates and nitrates.. continue with reg water changes.. don't overfeed the tank and you should be okay! How long do you have your lights on for?

Thanks for the heads up. Will go for a small piece together cuc. How many nassarius would you suggest with a 2"sand bed

About a half dollar sized spot cyano that I scooped up and tossed, and the sand is starting to get a brown coloration in certain spots.

CUC won't deal with cyano. In my 40 g breeder, I have 2 large nassarius, 2 large astreas, 1 large hermit, a fromia elegans (not sure if she is a CUC), a couple of small hitchhiker snails, and tons of colonistas (needless to say I didn't put them there)

Personally I think you can never have "too" much. There is always going to be some die off. I stay away from red legged hermits, they eat coralline and bluelegs. Also, stay away from sand sifting stars. they'll starve to death in a young tank. I'd stick with all snails and the blue legs. If you are going to have corals, remember that the golf ball sized turbos are like bulldozers. Mount your corals well, and make sure your rock work is well secured. They'll get in between rocks and dislodge them.
