What size return pump?

I'm going to be setting up a 30g sump/refugium for my 90g DT. I want to put the sump in my basement and pump the water up. Hopefully you guys can help me with a sufficient pump. I'm so lost at how to calculate the GPH I will need. I will be using a 2.75" life reef overflow stated at 600 GPH and 1" plumbing. The plumbing will be setup like this:

5 feet vertical with T/ball valve back to the refugium
90 degree piece
1 foot horizontal
90 degree piece
3 feet verticle into the tank

I did the head loss calc and got the below but honestly I'm not really sure what that tells me.

Total losses are 15.47 feet of head pressure, or 6.68 PSI. with a flow rate of 1642 GPH

Thanks!

Sorry joon16, can't help you with that, but I'll give you a bump and hope the pro's catch up with this thread.

Nice dog by the way

Best of luck with your tank and happy reefing

If you are referring to the head loss calc here on RC..you can select all your parameters, (90's, horiz and vert length, valves, pipe size etc..) and change the pumps around to find the amount of flow you want to end up with, which should be the same or slightly lower than your overflow capacity.

so when you got this

that was the outcome for the pump that was selected...obviously much more than your overflow can handle....

I'm no expert mind you...but that's how I understand that calculator to work..

Ok great, I wasnt sure what to do with the calc. I just picked a random pump. I''ll have to run them with each pump and see what I come up with. Thanks, this atleast points me in the right direction.
