Pre filter on my return pump - yeah or ney?
I have an Ehiem 1200 for a return pump & I have a foam pre-filter on the intake for the usual reasons. I clean this once a week, Is this a good idea or bad, I should say that I am battling hair algae.
Thanks, Steve |

I use a coarse foam pre-filter on my Mag 9.5 to stop any chaeto or caulerpa getting into the pump. As long as you're rinsing it out weekly it's not an issue.

I had a pre filter on my mag 9 took it off for one day, and a snail crawls right in and breaks the impeller. Will never take it off again for extended period of time
