Glass cages tanks
I know this has beat to death but out of the not so great reviews from glass cages, has anyone had a tank leak or fail in any way. Any input on the top bracing would be great also. It seams from the pics the 180 wide I want has some pretty large bracing that might cause some shading.

Read many "bad" happenings w/ bigger tanks but I have a frag tank from them that was used at a local fish store for about 6 months and then I purchased it and have had it up for about 3 months but its only a 60g tank.

I have a 240 that I bought almost 6 years ago that has the wide euro brace around the edges and 2 back to front braces. I don't see any shading. The braces are glass and as long as you keep it clean, light shines through.

If you are anywhere near Nashville, you can pick up at their location. I think they are about 1/2 hour west of Nashville.

I have a glass cages tank coming February 9th. A 65 gallon, I'll let you know if it explodes after I load some water in it.

My tank was originally glass cages. Poor thing was beat to death by the last owner. Was on bricks, wracked, busted panes when moving the tank in, did a rig job to try and fix it, and the dang thing still held water.
I rebuilt it when I got it but I also have a 50g long from them that holds water just fine. Not the best silicone job, a little sloppy but the price is probably half so I don't think its that bad to have to take a razor blade and clean it up should it not be perfect. My 50g looks like any other tank with strait clean silicone edges.

I ordered I think January 11th, they have a truck coming for Feb 9th and said it wouldn't be a problem. $400 for a 42x20x18 rimless (additional costs for drilled holes, overflows, bulkheads).

Tanks are good priced shipping way overpriced a 6 year old could caulk better than they can and where the glasses seams meets could be more aligned.. You get what you pay for .. Their tanks do hold water

I looked into glass cages, and decided against taking a chance on them.. Reviews were hit & miss.. I ultimately ended up order a tank from a company called Planet Aquariums in Dallas... They were super easy to deal with and the tank came out awesome. It's a 48x21.5x25 rimless. I'd recommend them if you're close enough to pickup, and I'd still check into them to see if they ship and what their rates are if they do...
Their number is (214) 275-3958 if you wanna check em out. |

Big thing is price difference. I looked at a cube from them 48/48/24 rimless. 980$ or so plus cost of holes drilled and shipping, so maybe 1400 or so. Another company quoted me 5100$ for same tank....that's an absurd difference... One other place quoted me 2700 delivered so you can see the huge price difference....
I'm still debating and now I've thrown acrylic into the mix Corey |

Following this thread as I'm currently in the market for a new tank/stand.
I raised an eyebrow at some of the reviews on their "quality", but -- on the other hand -- man are they ever cheap. I wonder how representative the internet is.. if it's the squeakier wheels complaining, or a fair cross-section of customer experience.

I had a 29g and a 90g from GC (I wont give them the pleasure of a web hit on their name) and never had a "failure" but both were shoddy at best. The 90g was RR with an offset overflow. The overflow was horrible (in terms of performance). The cover was designed poorly (teeth too close together, didn't match up to OF in terms of dimensions etc) and the overall tank was a hassle in terms of water level. I had it ~5 years and the whole time I was completely unhappy with it.
This is just talking about build quality and performance and in no way even remotely starts to talk about their horrible customer service (after they had my credit card), their non-existent quality control, and their lack of cleanliness of the finished product. Buyer Beware... they are CHEAPER for many reasons . . . I wouldn't commission them to build a trough to catch dog waste let along something I want to be the single largest component that will be housing gallons upon gallons of water INSIDE my home. Remember I'm speaking from First Hand Experience and not something I heard from a friend whose cousin's sister's brother heard of a bad experience. |

My current tank is a 48 x 48 x 24 Glass Cages tank. Best value out there. Not the prettiest or most flawless, but definitely the best value. I fully intend to buy my next tank from them as well.

My latest Miracles tank quote was only a couple of hundred more then GC's. I've had both and would choose the Miracles over the GC.

They make a ton of tanks. I forget the numbers but IIRC it was thousands per year.
