Find Foxface a companion or a new home?
just wondering what you guys thought..
I just upgraded my 55 gallon with no sump to a 75 gallon with a 30 gallon sump. I plan to take all the fish over except a jerky sixline. The old tank had 60 lbs of rock and 60 lbs of sand, the new tank will have around 100 lbs of live rock and a ssb. The new tank being 5 1/2" deeper, there still will be alot more room for him to swim. He hides most of the time now and I now know thats partly because hes lonely for a companion.. I'm just trying to decide if it makes more sense to find him the companion or a better/ bigger home. Just dont know if he can be happy in a 75 with 100 lbs of rock. I also plan to get more fish and plenty of corals as the lights and skimmer will be here tomorrow My current Live stock is as follows: Percula Clown (plan to get her a bf) Tail Spot Blenny Royal Gramma Yellow Clown Goby Foxface & a feather duster, Emerald crab and a bunch of hermits n snails. I plan on eventually getting a mated pair of mandarins, a couple fire fish and maybe a couple more small fish. So should I keep Foxy and if so what do i get him for a companion? Kole tang? Tomini Tang? Other? Or does it make more sense sadly but truly to find him a better/ bigger home? PS. Im happy to be parting ways with the sixline so i def dont want to get Foxy a companion that he wont get along with and then ill have a new fish to catch. Also dont want any coral eaters, Foxy has been in the tank with a brown polyp coral (?) for a couple weeks now and has just eaten the algae around it.. Hoping he is reef safe. Any advice is greatly appreciated.. |

So I just added a female foxface (Lo) to the Male one spotted Yellow rabbit fish... And my male is completely gone ape-**** ... He used to be so shy and never was comfortable enough (always going into camo mode) as soon as he saw the female, he instantly re-gained his yellow which I had not seen since I bought it.
Now I don't know if they will learn to settle down but for now I turned off all the lights in the room to avoid my new female (Lo) getting slaughtered or raped (I haven't figured out yet if this is a territorial/species thing or if it's aggressive towards other females that he was not raised with. I bought them both as adults from I'm assuming the same source catcher. It's day 1 as I post this. I would really like some help on how to get the male to calm down. The balls on him grew quite big as he used to be scared from the tiniest of movements and now he's essentially ignoring my net when I'm telling him to let the female go. He's attacking her near the back side. Is he trying to mate or are these two just not compatible 55g Tank --> will be moved to 140g in the near future. Thank you |

One will likely kill the other, I regret to say. Fish do not like friends. They defend territory.

So If anyone is interested in knowing what happened, I luckily managed to return the Lo and kept my spotted Foxface. (traded it for a Desjardini Sailfin Tang) NEVER TRY THIS FOR YOURSELF!!! I'm thinking maybe there were so much beef because they were different species but as Day 2 and 3 went on the Lo (spotless) developed a camouflage tint to mimic the yellow making the whole mess a lot more manageable but as soon as I turned on the lights it was all hell broken loose again. So note to self "never again".
