peppermint shrimp
How do you prevent them from getting sucked in to the powerhead?

We'd need a little more information about your tank to give a good answer.
What kind of powerheads? Where are they located in the tank?

It's just an aqua clear 50 that draws/sucks water in the bottom and forces it out the front.

If it can't get away from a power head then it must be sick and to weak to be able to. Mine will sit on my koralia 1400 with no problem.

I was just wondering this because they look so fragile and I was wondering if it could happen to them. plus I haven't seen the shrimp since I put him in the tank two days ago. :-/

If you were that tiny and that delicious you would hide too I put in a blood shrimp in my tank and he just vanished, wrote him of as dead. Then 2 months later....poof...there he was. How something that red can hide is a mystery to me.
He is probably somewhere around your tank....don't expect to see too much of him, ever. |

Don't worry about the shrimp they won't be sucked into the power head. The ocean is much more violent than your tank is. I have a MP60 and a 6215 wavebox on my 125g and nothing gets sucked into anything including my Australian sea apple

like mentioned earlier if they are not sick and dying already they wont get sucked into power heads. also they usually stay low and hide alot.

The way that these pumps are made, there's quite a bit of suction from the intake IMO. There's always a chance the shrimp could get too close and not be able to escape. You might want to use a single bioball and place it in the intake. This will dampen the amount of "pull" the pump has. HTH.
