no you're not asking for trouble. Just make sure you also consider what else you'll need to add to keep everything running nice and cool. Running the Radion hotter then intended will diminish the leds useful life span and efficiency. You may end up with a very nice combo depending on the MH kelvin. Ive always thought the radions couldn't quite pull off the rich colors that t5s and Mh can (remember thats just my opinion), I'm not a fan of leds by themselves but I've seen some nice combos results

At those dimensions, 3 isn't nearly enough. I'd be looking at 6 minimum.

The halides should help tremendously.

No, you're not crazy. This was on my 40 Gallon Breeder Tank for about 6 months before I switched the AI SOL's to AI Vegas. I only run the Halides for 4 hours.

It can work.

Thanks

Awesome guys, thanks for the replies. I set everything up yesterday and wow what a difference. I have the Radions to the front. and halides behind them as I needed more light with the 3 ft depth. I currently had radium bulbs from last use but I am ordering I believe Phenix 14k as I have blue with the radions.

Awesome pics, tank looks great!

thanks for the insight. I was going to add 3 more radions but miss the color I get from MH. I think now I have the best of both worlds sort of and I am sure I can get better growth from the halides. Thanks guys

I bet this will look pretty cool. You have quite a large tank.

Ok..Let's take this a little further....
I switched from 3 MH\T5 to 3 Vegas\T5s and have never been totally happy although getting better. How would all three work together?
The same setup as pictured above but with the addition of 4 T5s for my 180 gal 6x2x2 mixed reef.
Stagger them so LEDs are on all day but primarily for Sunrise\Sunset, MH on for peak times and T5s on for daytime.
Probably overkill but I have the MH still wired in canopy and the pendants just collecting dust since I swapped them out.

When in doubt, use all three kinds of lighting.
It's probably be a great idea IMO. I would do it if it's feasible.
