Dental Aquariums

ok, this is something random that I've always wondered...
WHY DO DENTISTS ALWAYS HAVE A REEF AQUARIUM?
I've been all over USA and I've never seen a dentist office without one.
You don't see them at the doctor's, or the bank, orother places where you wait...
why dentists? just curious!

Mine has one with a noisy overflow to mask the sounds of drilling

Because many people have a fear of going to the dentist. Those fears can often be the strongest when sitting in the waiting room. A relaxing view of a reef tank helps to calm the patients. And yes, noise from overflows and skimmers helps to drown out the drilling noise that will make some people run out the door.

My fear of going to the doctor is MUCH stronger...the only thing THEY ever have to entertain me are magazines about health...great.
fish mommy's explanation makes sense though.
interested to hear what others have to say!

Do you think it's because they charge so much money for a service you cannot really argue over, they have so much extra cash that they put it into a reef tank.
And it's probably a write-off as a business expense!
Bastards.

I just went to my dentist yesterday. I was sitting in the waiting room wishing he had a reef tank. Kind of funny to me that this post popped up today.

I've worked chairside for a dentist for over 10 years. No reef tank, or even a FW tank for that matter. Hmm, I should have a talk with him, but...... whoops... I'd be the one who would have to maintain it....I think I'm good without it!

Do we get points since our office bathroom is decorated with saltwater fish???

Heh - my doctor's office had a 55gal FOWLR tank. Didn't last too long - maybe 1 year. It contained 1 clownfish, 1 blue damsel and 1 Hippo tang. Was told it was getting expensive to hire out someone to care for his tank. LOL!

My dentist just has a basic 55 gal FW tank. Not the prettiest thing in the world, but I watch everything to take my mind off the inevitable.
