Back in the Game!! (with my Nuvo 38)

Since we bought our home (4.5 years ago), I've been out of the hobby. So my wife and I decided to get back in to it.

So we're starting off small. We went last night to Brea Tropical Fish and got an incredible deal on our new setup.

38g setup with 40 lbs of aragonite LS and 35 lbs of LR (Fiji)

Here's the setup
-Innovative Marine Nuvo 38

-EcoTech Radion Pro xr30w

-EcoTech MP10

-Tunze 9004

-Nature's Ocean Live Aragonite

The light and skimmer are arriving tomorrow, and the powerhead later on, but the LR is cooking!

Are my filters even working since most of the water is spilling out the top?

Nice setup. If you could, can you give a report back on how you like the skimmer?

Looking good, looks just like mine after I pored in the sand. I took almost a week for it to clear up. I just changed out the filter floss everyday or so.

That's funny....looks like that's where I'm headed. So I covered the outlets with fine paper towels, and it got rid of most of the cloud. I'm hoping the skimmer might get rid of the rest. I'm picking it up this afternoon and attaching it right away, and then my Radion Pro!

So there's nothing to Bragg about in the tank right now, I just have LR. Hopefully in a week or two I can throw in some junk frags.

I love my 9004 so far, it's quiet and doing it's job. I had one cup of skimmate after 12 hours (it was not very thick though).

I doubled up my filter baskets (see picture above). Some water spills over top of first basket, so the 2nd catches everything else.

I've been a bit busy, so the light is going up tonight.

Nice setup like the fact the tunze 9004 sits on the chamber I thought it would be to big. Wow I did not see the Eco Tech Radion Pro going to be nice.

I wanted the Pro because of the UV LED's. My highest priority when deciding on a light was getting one with UV integrated. I understand this light is overkill, but it's the only EcoTech that has these.

Why are UV's important to me?! They make the corals GLOW, so I enjoy the tank at night more than the day. It's absolutely stunning.

So the guy at Brea Tropical Fish quoted me $700 for the Pro, so I took it. The next day when I went to pick it up, he realized he undercharged me big time. He just smiled and said enjoy. Either way, I'm extremely happy with that store. I think he was one of the original owners.

I mounted it for about $15, and I like the way it looks. I'll post more pictures when they upload to my cloud.

And yes I was watching Barca smack down on Paris SG last night Champions League...until the last second of the game...tie.

Can you adjust the skimmer cup for thicker skimmate?

that little blue screw restricts airflow to "bubble maker". The more you restrict air flow, the thicker the skimmate gets. Very easy.

So you can not raise or lower the skimmer correct?

Incorrect. There is about one inch of play to raise or lower the skimmer. I've heard of guys having the skimmer intake just 1/4" below the surface.

The skimmer is designed with surface skimming. The water enters through the bottom of the collection cup, and then down to the bubble maker, then the bubbles overflow to produce the skimmate.

I'll post pictures later.

I ordered the Hydor, then changed it last minute because of reviews were all top notch for the Tunze. I can't speak on the quality of skimmate so far, since I have no bio load, but it IS quiet enough that you can't hear it from 10 feet away.

Is the noise you hear from the air intake or the pump?

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S III

Its the bubbles coming from the pump, kind of like a really quiet venturi. Honestly there's no significant nose to speak of.

So it looks like my phone pictures upload to Google+ every night automatically. So if I take a picture right now, I can post it till tomorrow morning. If anyone knows how to make it an instant upload, let me know.

Anyways, here is a FTS from yesterday.

So I must say I love my Radion Pro, and I'm so glad I bought it over any other previous version of the Radion.

The one most important thing I wanted in a light was UV. This picture kind of tells why.

Here is my new GSP from friendlyvission...awesome guy. He's definitely old school mentality, I love it.

Anyway. Under Radion settings: 100% UV, 45% royal blue, 20% red....10% night mode.

The picture came out decent, but in person it looks glowing. Just a standard GSP you always see, no special "ultra" type.
