First time...my tank scared the heck out of me

Tonight I was remounting a frag and flipped over a rock. Next thing I see is a snake out of the corner of my eye. I look down and this bristle worm - has to be at least 2 - 3 feet long and 1/2 inch wide - is slithering down my tank.

I decided to catch it in a net and remove it - it's now in my nano tank where I'm curing some rock. Jeesh - that really made me jump! I know they can be big but seriously that's a little much!

I have seen some videos on Youtube of big ones, never heard of them that long though!

If you use a red flashlight at night (after atleast 30 mins of darkness) You will see many creatures 'strutting' around the tank, like bristleworms, brittle-stars, amphipods, etc.

They do not scatter and hide when under only red light, allowing you to watch the fascinating night life in your tank.

Reeferbatman - night is a whole other world. I have radions so I switch em on to red and watch the tank - cool stuff.

I got my rock from Tampa Bay so I'm assuming it came direct from the ocean. Given its size, it's was amazing watching him go into a large snail shell. It eventually gave up and went off to find another spot that was a bit roomier but he all but made it.

Now that the initial shock is over and it's in the nano tank, I can flush him out into the open and get some better pictures at another time.
