yucky smellling live rock
everything in the tank is doing well, params are good, and the water smells great, sand smells fine, but from the very beginnig,my LR has always stunk! I'm not sure how to describe it...knd of a sickly sweet smell. rotting veggies is what comes to mind, but I don't think that's right. anyway, is this normal? will it go away eventually? thanks!

Didn't you post this thread once before?
Live rock has always had a funk to it IME. Same with some corals. It shouldn't be something you can smell across the room though. It also shouldn't be something you can smell when it's submerged. The only time I ever smell it is when the rock is out of the water and for some reason sorta close to my nose. It can also leave a bit of smell behind on your hands.

I have (literally) over a ton of rock and coral sitting next to me right now and I smell NOTHING. (I have a good nose, too.)
Maybe it's time to do a water change.. Or run a skimmer.. Or open a window? FWIW Acropora are probably the smelliest of things besides uncured liverock containing dead/dying organisms.

This!!! I've never in 25 years removed a piece of rock to smell it. Some of the 25 year old rock is 7 feet from me and I don't smell anything.
