Smile Upgrading to 180 Ideas/Help

So in the near future i would like to upgrade my 75 gallon to a 180! And I need suggestions how to do the transfer all of my livestock to a new tank. I would like to use the same sand from my old tank and rocks. Should I take the water from my old tank and put it in the new tank as well? Also Will my new tank cycle? or just go through a mini cycle?

As of livestock i have a yellow tang, 2 snowflake clowns, cleaner wrasse, yellow wrasse, 3 chromis, 2 cleaner shrimps, 2 fire shrimps.

5 Anemones, 2 duncans, frogspawn, hammer coral, orange ricordia, 2 acans.

So what are your ideas on the best way to upgrade to a new tank?
Also where is a good place to buy a 180 gallon tank? Other than glass cages

Having just moved a tank, I would not try to reuse old sand without washing it really well first. Reuse as much of the water as you can. It is easier if the new tank is not going to go in the same place as the old one, otherwise some kind of temporary holding reservoir is going be needed - I have used those big Rubbermaid tubs.

Don't know much about glass cages, but World Class aquarium in Brooklyn still makes a 180 that appears almost identical to the one glass cages sells. I had a 180 from WC for close to 15 years and it was solid as a rock. Also, why not go with a stock 180 from marineland? Will cost you less I'd imagine. Coast to coast in NJ makes nice custome tanks, but they're a bit more expensive.

Get most of the gunk out of it with regular tap and then do a last rinse with RODI.

Craigslist or a forum like this would be your best bet to find a 180. You will save a considerable amount of money going used.

I vote to ditch the sand and just go new. Don't need live because the rock is live. Saves you allot of work, and the old sand is, well.... Old.

I dumped my old sand - avoided the PIA of washing it and since you won't need live sand because you are keeping the live rock, you can buy inexpensive dry sand - no need to rinse if you add it carefully. I just loaded up a new 125 with dry CaribSea Special Grade and there was barely any cloudiness after I added the water. I put in the sand, laid saran wrap across it and weighed that down with dinner plates and then added the water. Worked like a charm. I even have an extra 40 lb bag of that sand for $25 if you are looking.

On C-List I found a Oceanic 220g with stand for $500. The guy threw in a 75g sump, and older protein skimmer and a wet/dy trickle which i dont use all for free. want the 75g for a sump, or the trickle for a fuge? just PM me. The sump is predrilled for external pump
