Murky water in my nano tank

Hey folks. I'm not "new to the hobby," but I am new to this problem. I've had a 38 gallon nuvo nano cycling for over a month now, and yesterday the water turned a murky brown color. Research suggests it's a bloom of brown algae, but I'm trying to see if anyone has any other idea of what it might be. I'm doing a mild water change to help it some, but I just did one two days ago.

Suggestions?

PS: I cleaned all the filter pads in ro/di water

If the tank is still cycling I'd keep the the lights and let it pass. Will most likely dissipate within a few days.

Do not do a mild water change, do a huge 50% one. If you are having a bloom then it is necessary to end it's cycle. Brown water could also be GFO dust, are you running any phosphate absorbent media?

I believe one of my sponges is a phosphate absorber. I get some media baskets in tomorrow with different filtration, so I'll be switching half the filters then. I know I have something for phosphate in what I ordered. Just don't remember what

Sponge would not do that, It would be the dust from GFO that would turn the water brown.
