Smile Which LED Lights use UV LED's besides the Radion Pro and Kessil?

I have heard a lot of people saying that you should get LED fixtures that have UV LED's in them.

I know the Radion Pro and the Kessils have UV Lights.

I was wondering if any other brands had UV lights in their fixtures?

You can get as many UV (400nm) and violet (410nm) leds as you want in any Reef Breeders or EverGrow fixtures. They sell 'standard' led layouts, but you can do a completely custom led layout with whatever colors you want, where ever you want them. It's like a DIY led in a classy looking fixture. And I think they only charge $10 extra for the custom build. And given they are much less expensive to start with, the extra $10 is easy!

So stock Vegas have no UV then?

I was most curious about the Big LED's

Razor
Kessil
Vega/Sol
Radions
Mitra

But I am curious if there are any other LED's out there with UV.

Does the Razor and Mitra have UV too?

Mitras have UV, as do most Pacific Sun models. I just upgraded some sols to Vegas, and they included UV lamps in the upgrade as well.

Correction: The Vega upgrades include 420nm Violet. 400nm UV are separate LEDs. In the future, I may swap out my greens for them.

Maxspect Razor has true violets.

More importantly, I would look at if the Cool Whites on your fixtures use Cree XP-G or XTE... having the wrong cool whites is the best way to ruin your coral's colors.

Are Violets UV or not?

I have heard about people mentioning them when talking about UV lights but I was not sure if they were actually UV or not?

Because the photosynthesis curve extends out into the UV ranges.

When you are done accumulating this info it would be great if you posted coverage and cost per lamp......I am trying to make a decision on this myself!

The general consensus at the moment that I have read is that a true UV only harms corals and does not help them (< 400 nm). As far as TRUE UV, I am not sure of any fixture that has them except the Vertex Illumina, and only in a very very small amount with an addon.
For instance:
- The GHL Mitra's have an optional 6 Hyperviolet LED's (420nm).
- The maxspect razor has 2 'Super Actinic' LED's at 410-420nm per "cluster" (3 clusters on the 27 inch and 2 clusters on the 20.5 inch)
- The Radion Pro's have 4 405nm leds, and 4 415nm leds.
- The reefbreeders Photon 16 series contains 6 410-420nm LED's.

The only fixture that I know of that has a TRUE UV LED is the Vertex Illumina and it is only available with the 'multi-color' module addon which includes only 1 LED at 390 nm, 1 405nm LED's, and 2 420nm LED's. Note: The illumina's also have a UV module addon and I am not sure of the exact nm those LED's come in.

I don't know if Reef Breeders offers it or not. It may not be in their standard fixture, but if you do a custom layout it should be available. EverGrow (who makes the RB fixtures) offers a 400-410nm UV and a 410-420nm violet.

Correct. True UV is not just useless in the reef - it is very dangerous to it's inhabitants and the aquarist. I think it's very important to properly name spectrum's of light - especially since people are reading these threads and will likely start putting in custom orders.

Ultraviolet is < 400nm. You do not want this in your tank! While UV light does naturally come from the sun, it gets dispersed very quickly at the surface of the water so very little to none of it makes it to the corals in the ocean. It is not needed in the reef tank. Prolonged exposure to UV light will cause irreversible eye damage, potentially blindness to you and your fish. This is why metal halides have a glass shielding - to filter out the harmful UV rays which the light produces.

What you want in your reef is properly called True Violet which is 400-420nm and beneficial.
