4foot 180 planning...questions.
So in the process of planning a 48"x 36"x24" external overflow mainly sps miracles tank reef. This build will take a good while to unfold so first things first. Gl*******s.com hole cutting project for a 55gal, and 40 breeder sump/refugium is my first step.

So this model sketchup is fairly accurate, but is my first attempt at using this software. I will be doing and entire build thread. So my thoughts are as such as I stated I will only be working on the sump/refugium design for now. All three pipes will be a Beenie style and will drain into the first section of the 40 gallon which is located in the very front left capartment. Will then have a few baffles that lead to the center section which will have equipment followed by a few more baffles which leads to a internal pump.(undecided as to which). The return will be T'ed off to a valve which then leads to the 55 gallon dialed back of course to control the flow through the refugium. The 55 is my refugium which I plan on putting roughly 200 lbs of Live rock from live aquaria as well as some sorta of Nitrate reducing macro. Then finally the two holes which Im making this week in the 55 gallon as pictured will drain back into my 40 where my skimmer will be located.
So does this design seem decent? Also I really want a lot of live rock so does this pose any issue for the refugium if I fill it with live rock and put a pump in for movement? Hole cutting tool is 2 3/8" for a 1 1/2 bulk head the setup from the refugium back to the begging section of the skimmer will be a herbie style, any advantage to installing a overflow in the 55? That's all for now will post pics as I drill and install baffles this week. Hope I can get some of yalls opinions as Im starting and wanna make sure I've not missed anything. |
