Matrix and BP

I am intending to covert my 75g FOWLR to reef. I have 60lbs of caribbean LR and do not want to add more for aesthetic purposes. I never really worried too much about nitrates being high in the FOWLR but now I will. To supplement the LR I was thinking of using 4L of Matrix in a old AquaEcxel reactor with a OTP-1000 I have sitting around.

I was also considering using BP in a separate reactor upstream of the Matrix to maintain a bacteria culture in the Matrix. I would use a higher flow rated pump with the reactors routed directly to the skimmer. I worry the BP may slime up the Matrix though in which case I could move the BR reactor downstream.

Any thoughts or experiences concerning my intended setup? Also, any further suggestions for increasing denitrification (aside from the normal reduce feeding and proper maintenance routines)
