Help me kill these Zoos! See Photo
OK, so these have grown out of control. Basically taken over all the space on live rock that does not have coral or mushrooms. Overgrown all the other zoos. Sadly, my Passer will not eat them. It is a major PIA to try and scrub them off, and it makes a putrid mess if I do it in a bucket, killing other corals or shrooms on the rocks. Please a take a look, and let me know what you think the best method to kill them is??? I am fine with anything that eats zoos, parasitic or not!

Heck, if you feel like bagging them well and picking up a foam shipping box, I'd cover the freight with a pre paid way will and fund your replacement live rock! If you're interested, PM me. I have plenty of space for all of it and would be happy to UPS you the packaging materials if you cant find the box locally.

A) They are ugly and grow like crazy over everything, not a cool looking zoo with nice colors. Just bland green, I'd rather see just coraline.
B) They are on almost every rock in the tank, it would basically mean getting rid of all the rocks to rid the zoos. And the rocks are awesome most are over 4 years old. |

Also, most of the rocks also have red, blue or green shrooms, or some ricordia, or some pavona coral or something I want. Chipping off the things I want, getting all new live rock and dumping this would be more hassle. Really looking for something that will eat them!

Many things won't eat zoas too much because zoas are toxic to many animals. I have heard that the plainer the zoa, the more toxic they are. Don't know how true that is though. Make sure that when you are working with the zoas that you are wearing gloves. The toxin they give off is also very toxic to humans. They could potentially cause death if the toxin got into your bloodstream (through open wounds, etc). Anyhoo, to get rid of the zoas, chip away the outer layer of rock that the zoas are on. You can then sell or trade them as frags. If you want the zoas eaten, find someone who has zoa eating nudibranches LOL

I read that you can scrape them off the rock with a razor blade pretty easily. I haven't tried it yet because mine haven't grown a ton, but just thought I would throw that out there.

You will never get rid of that type of zoa (palythoa) without drying out the rock and acid washing it. I had some of those on some rock I didn't want to kill and I left it in total darkness for 6 months. The zoa looked completely gone but after I put the rock back in my tank they came back pretty quickly.

The rocks that are totally covered... ditch them. Sorry.
The rocks that have just a few individual polyps, you can probably cover in a kaulk paste or inject with aiptasia-x?

I just got rid of some ugly zoos I had a few days ago that were taking over my back corner on rock. Got a bunch of kalkwasser and made a paste. Turned off the flow and got them while they were open...any that closed before the paste was on them didn't die but I did another round and ran some carbon...boom....gone. After a few hours I turned my flow back on so the paste disolved a little and didn't get on anything else.
