What coral is this?
I bought a bunch of corals/rock from a guy on craiglist, this was one of the pieces.
I put it in my tank yesterday, and it still now looks like in the picture. all shiny. Is it dead? if not, was is it called and what kind of flow/lighting needed for it. I have it it on the sandbed near a corner where there is not much flow. any help is appreciated |

Looks like an encrusting gorgonian. I have one about that size. It it pinkish brown? What your seeing is its mat encrusting a piece of LR. It should begin to extend its polyps in a few days which will be similar to star polyps but a tad longer and pink in color

It looks like a Blue Ridge coral. I had one similar and it just sits there like that. Only if the water is ideal will the white polyps come out.

I think blue ridge as well. I had one years ago...very finicky to get the polyps to emerge. High water flow seemed to help
