sea weed from supermarkets

So I plan to have tangs in my tank and researched some of their foods. So I was shopping at my local asian store and came apon different sea weeds. There seems to be different flavors of the sea weeds and there is the plain kind which will be for the tangs. Unless roasted and salted version has some benefit for the tangs that I dont know about.

Has anyone tried to feed the human sea weed to their tangs? How did it go? If we compare human nori to fish quality nori, do you think there is a difference? do you think human nori would be better because of FDA inspection?

Thanks.

Yes. The Chinese food section at Walmart has it. Not bad for $2

They are both the same thing, grocery nori tends to be cheaper.

Plus you can pick up some kimchi while you're there.

Of course the LFS says their nori is better for 4 sheets for 5.99. The sheets of nori look the same to me and fish eat both kinds right up.

Just make sure the nori isn't flavored, unless you know your tangs like wasabi. But seriously, make sure it's not teriyaki or soy sauce flavored. Most Korean seaweed has oil added to it (get this one for yourself, it's really good).

To answer your question about regulation, you are absolutely correct. Since food for human consumption is regulated and inspected, it's thought to be a better choice than typical fish food. For example, frozen silversides sold as fish food have been blamed for deaths of anemones. The concern is that since the silversides could be defrosted, then frozen again, contaminated, or even spoiled -- all along the distribution channel from production to storage at the LFS -- they could be in pretty bad shape by the time we use it to feed our tanks.

I get mine at Walmart for 2.00

It is 7.99 at my LFS but I get a lot more for only 25% of the price at Walmart.

It is the same thing except that some of the seaweed at my LFS is dipped in Garlic so the fish may like it more.

Otherwise they are the same thing.

I buy bulk packages of Nori at the asian market. Just have to check the labels to make sure the only ingredient is Nori.

I've been using this type of Nori for 15+ years. Never had an issue with it. Now if someone just made a Nori clip that lasted more than a couple of weeks before having to fix/assemble/glue it back together.

+10 on the WalMart nori!

Three Little Fishies magnetic clip has lasted me 6 months and shows no sign of falling apart. Operator error?

Get the $2 Nori from Walmart. My yellow tang and foxface would go crazy for the stuff. Plus, it holds together better on the clip than the more expensive stuff that the LFS sells.

I get the unsalted and roasted sheets from the asian market. I make sure it isn't flavored, etc. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to get roasted, but the only two options I've seen are roasted and dried, whereas dried is not sheets, so I went with roasted.

Here you go:

1/4" bird netting from BRS folded in half and kept together by rigid tubing. No mess, no stink, no fuss.
