opaque gel?

I started to cycle my tank 6 days ago using 5 raw shrimp in a pantyhose sack. My ammonia has risen to almost 2
No nitrite detected or expected yet
I did gather a small amount of live rock rubble and sand from the lfs and dumped it in my sump

Since I have nothing to really look at in the DT I was spending some time in the basement staring at the sump and dreaming about the future possibilities when I noticed that something seemed to be encasing my shrimp sack(I was looking at the sack in the sump lol). Upon closer examination I discovered an opaque firm gel had encased the outside of the shrimp sack. It was firm but not hard, very similar in consistency to a jellyfish but slightly firmer and milky opaque in color. Actually my first thought was "how the heck did I get a jellyfish this big in my tank in 5 days" but as I attempted to handle it it began to break apart in large pieces. I figured I would get a camera and snap a few picks, so I lowered it back in the water...and of course I hadnt even turned around and it went straight to the return bulkhead, wrapped around the strainer and was completely sucked through to my return pump. Well nothing to do now but go upstairs and see if it made it through the pump..it did, shredded into a million little pieces.

So thats why I dont have a picture. Anyway....
My question is: This was probably bacteria growing around shrimp sack yes? And if it is bacteria Im hoping it is a good type?

Yes, and yes. It's just like how rotten food gets squishy, only underwater.

How big is your tank?

Dt is 105g
40g in the sump and 40g remote fuge
current total volume of about 170g

thats what I figured, it was kinda cool how it had encased the outside of the sack and the shrimp are still together in the sack(im not gonna mess with them in case the sack is the only thing holding them together...lol) It didn't really smell awful, not pleasant but not horrible. It was easily .5cm thick
