If the pump is external from the body, it is easy to switch out pumps with another brand, but if it is in the body it can be very difficult. They have problems and no support with the Gen 1 pumps so it would be a risk to get the Gen 2. Supposedly they are shipping out parts and the new pumps at the same time, so this round should go better.

I have one and several other DC pumps which perform flawlessly.

I think the pump issue is overblown. Only people that have issues are going to post about it so it makes it seem like it is a high percentage.

I will only buy DC pumps from now on, they are so quiet.

Every pump on my current tank is DC (skimmer, return, WP25 and two vortech MP40's)

It isn't like DC pumps are a new technology.

+1 I also use a R6I and a Diablo 5500 for the return, dc pumps are where it's at.

My issue with the topic of RLSS is I hear people say their customer service sucks, which it kinda does but if you buy the skimmer from a quality retailer it doesn't matter much, they will take care of most issues. I broke the valute on my R6 and called Salty Supply to ask about buying a new one, they sent me out a new one for free.
Get the RLSS, you will be happy, great skimmers.

That's good to hear. I know when I first bought mine they were awesome, I think they became a little overwhelmed with all the business when their skimmers took off.

Yea.. I think that's what happened... Seems like they have really bounced back now and are keeping up per say.

So in the last week or two my skimmer has become louder. It is the air being sucked in, kind of a gurgling sound. Anyone else have this? I am going to give it a good vinegar bath and see what happens.

I am running it in about 8 inches of water on the highest pump setting.

It did not make this noise in the beginning.

Try pulling the air hose and see if there is salt build up in the hose port on the volute. I was surprised how much buildup there was in a very short time. Mine gets louder the more clogged it gets. Be careful not to twist using the nipple, it will break off.

I took the volute off and cleaned it. There was no buildup though. Put it back on and it was just as loud. Started playing around with the volute, turning it, and found when the volute nipple is at 2 o'clock looking straight at the volute it is silent. I didn't notice a difference in airflow visually, I may try to find my air meter to see if it is now drawing less air.

Premiumaquatics

replace it? I'd rather them take it back haha. 1 1/2 day of working and it already quit. I'd rather not have to deal with it lol

I'm sure they will, but im still not happy. 1 full day of running and it bites the dust.. I don't have high hopes for the skimmer anymore. Will probably get it fixed and sell it so I dont have to deal with the headache later on.

I am surprised by the amount of people that are happy with their skimmers running for several months. I am only happy when my pump last for years.

I didn't say I only like like running for a month but I am sure there might be a lot more with no issues than with issues. Just saying.

Am I supposed to be unhappy that mine has been running trouble free for several months?

Sure, if it dies next month I will be ****ed, but at this point it has been a great skimmer.
