Don't run two. Just get a bigger skimmer to handle the duties. Aquamaxx is hard to beat for quality and price right now.

How much room do you have to put the skimmer and what size tank do you want to clean. Also do you have a high bioload from fish?

I did go the SRO 1000 & 2000 route, and was wrong. My AquaMaxx EM series blows them out of the water. The smallest size in the lineup was pulling more than the SRO 2000.

If you have a sump get a in sump skimmer. They are a lot more efficient than a HOB

IMO the Aquamaxx EM skimmers are the best bang for buck skimmers available

Believe it or not, my second choice would be the Eshopps. The new ones use Sicce pumps instead of the Atman pumps. I used to use them, but sold them before the Atman pumps crapped out. They performed just as well as the SRO 2000's using the Atman pumps.

In sump skimmers tend to be balanced a little better. They draw in a little bit more air when there is less head on the pump. Inlet pipes that are attached to the skimmers pump put a little bit more pressure on the pumps, they handle this slight head easily but it throws the balance off just slightly enough to lose a tad bit of efficiency. Also in sump skimmers are fed more protien latent water because most people who use sumps have an overflow box that skims the surface water ( where the doc's tend to accumulate) thus feeding the skimmer water of a higher toc content.

The shark 2 sicce would be a good fit for a 75 gallon tank. I'm a little confused about your question though. Are you trying to fit a new pump on an existing skimmer?

external vs insump

If unless you are commited to insump skimmers , external units are always the better of the two. You get much better control over the water/air interaction where as the insump skimmers are not only finicky on sump water levels but it limits you to how much air you can mix with the water that is predetermind. Also the external units are more powerful to allow more thorough mixing of the doc's because of the control of the air you want as most units are recirculating skimmers and water level you desire for a particular type of skim you prefer. Water feed to your external skimmer is exactly the same as the water going into your insump skimmer - no difference , therefore no advantage to having an insump unit except to save space outside you aquarium !

I'm running a Octo nw150 on my 60 cube with a 30 gallon sump. Works great. I know aqua cave and premium aquatics used to carry the whole line of Octo's.

I was comparing in sump to hob. external skimmer over in sump imo is better.

The 100 would be a better fit for your tank.
