Stained silicone
I posted this question to my local LFS and discussion board am still unclear what is causing my problem.
I bought a 57g Deep Blue saltwater system from someone about a month ago. All of the silicone on the bottom edges and about 4" up the corners has turned a rust color. It is like a stain - instead of a film on the top of the silicone. It does not scratch off. My concern is that it will compromise the seal on the tank and start leaking water. Since it is limited to the bottom of the tank, I am wondering if it came from the sand. Has anyone encountered this before? I will attach a picture here for reference. Any help, recommendations or questions will be appreciated. Thank you. |

I have the exact same staining on my 120gal marineland freshwater tank. My sealant has been stained for the past 2 years with no problems. I called marineland and received no real info or help. If the sealant is still pliable and not seperating from the glass it should be good. A pic of my sealant staining.
