Mp40 drivin me nuts
So I had an mp40 in storage for a while and lost the power supply, I got on Eco tech website and bought a new one for like 50 bucks I believe. When it came in my mp40 wouldn't turn on and I ended up having to replace the controller so I went with the Es (Nice upgrade from my gen 1) for another 100 bucks. It works but it rattles off the tank. The magnet in the westside rusted away and I have to replace the westside for 100 bucks now. Is the mp40 always going to cost this much to upkeep? For 250 I'm sure there is something better out there.. Any other power heads for a rimless tank?

Is ecotech to only one that has a power head that does not require a wire in the tank? I really like the look but it's expensive and very un reliable

I don't see it as un reliable.....
how long was it in storage? Did you store it correctly? If it was running fine an d you stored it incorrectly you cant really complain about problems. If anything you were able to get it going with out having to purchase new so you got a discount. The wetside is completely repairable. I still recommend having a extra. Just makes cleaning them a lot easier. Pull dirty old one off put new one on and clean old one while new one is in place. |

Maby I did store incorrectly. I put it in a box with all my other equipment that worked fine afterwords... I put a piece of cardboard between wetside and dry side and a tie wrap on the cables. How else would you store it? It also looked like they did not have parts for the old westside, correct me if I'm wrong but I think you can only get magnets for the new one and its different

You have to un-assemble clean and dry the wetside before you reassemble and store or you will trap water in it and it will rust.
As far as wetside parts... As far as I know you can get every part of it. I think the prop and center screw and nut all come together so you can't buy just the prop or the screw. Mine were old style wetsides and I upgraded them to new style which really was just the center screw nut and bushing. |

Don't give up hope. Try to fix the wetside before shelling out for the fresh. You can remove the rust with phosphoric acid and a little effort. If the pump quiets down just apply a thin layer of epoxy resin over the exposed magnet and retest. You may have to lightly sand the dried resin.
A couple hours of work could save you a few bucks. |

Forget the MPs and go for WPs. They're loud and expensive.

using the correct spacer setting is key. The rattling should be corrected with the replacement parts. I have found them to be workhorses and never had any issues that were not fixable. Don' t give up on them ... they are solid pumps ! Good luck, neil

Not having wires in your tank makes it look much better, the MP40 takes up real estate IMO. My MP40s have been going 6-7 years.
