Thumbs down Just tried API Quick Start Crashed my pH

API Quick Start claims to "immediately start aquarium cycle" I just put in the recommended dose and my pH crash from a 7.6 to a 6.0 (6 is the lowest this kit will go) Although Ammonia level appears to be slowly dropping, there is no warning label about possible pH crashing. I mean a warning label would be stupid, right? I work at Pet Co and wont be recommending this product to anyone.

Cheers from Virginia

The oxydation of ammonia to nitrate consumes alkalinity. If the alk drops too low the pH crashes.

these 2 things on the bottle deff. shouldn't be together and should be a dead giveaway that you shouldn't add anything to the tank right away.

Allows instant addition of fish
Immediately starts aquarium cycle

if it immediately starts the cycle then it is gonna create ammonia, deff. not something you want when adding fish.

there really isn't a fast way to cycle the tank, add ammonia and just wait, these instant cycle stuff IMO is junk. but i guess dr. tims is good, and the reason is because it is still alive and has to be shipped fast to you and not sitting on a shelf for god knows how long.

I doubt that the pH really hit 6. The live rock would have started bubbling and dissolving. That sounds like a testing limitation.

That product supposedly contains live bacteria, and I tend to be skeptical about such additives.

Yeah, if the rocks aren't fizzing then the pH measurement is wrong.

What test kit were you using? Most kits designed to test for the range of a marine aquarium don't read below about 7.4. The so called wide range kits, such as the test strips, aren't even close to accurate.
