Should I get a radion pro ?

Tossing around the idea of getting a radion pro.
I'll be keeping 75% lps and the rest sps
I currently have a gen 1
What's the thoughts ??

The gen 1 is on my smaller 25 and I planned on moving it to my 75

Another option would be to upgrade the Gen 1 to a Pro, if Ecotech is still offering the upgrade.

Ya, I was thinking about that. Do they offer that still? I would do that instead.

I just checked and it looks like they are still offering the upgrades, which says a lot about the company in my opinion.

I'm not sure if it's acceptable to post outside vendor links here so I will PM you the link to their upgrade page.

Well. I just mounted my radion gen1 in my new 75 which has some caves and pillars and I think the gen1 doesn't cover it enough. A lot of shadows. I have it 13" from water surface and at 55% at max point during day.
Should I bump up the 55%?
And can I add a pro ? Will the lights mix and I won't see a difference in lights in the two areas of the tank?
You would think that they would make one led that can cover a 36x24x20 deep tank

I don't think bumping up the intensity will get rid of your shadows, as it sounds like the problem is due to the light being blocked by the rock.

Good news, mention of a new lens, that will provide 36" coverage is being discussed on the Ecotech forum. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2328489

I believe I read somewhere on ecotech's site that 32" is the max spread on the Pro w/ TIR lenses.

In this thread, the president of Ecotech said, "In the near future there will be a wide angle optic offered as an accessory designed for 36x36 and beyond spread at 9" from water line."

ya..i do like the Atlantik, but I like the ecotech sync with my two mp40....
I also put the TIR lenses on my Gen1 but I still think its not doing it...
I wish they made the ecotech in a 24" version
Does the Atlantik come with UV lighting ?

The Pro has 10 more LED's than Gen1.
2 yellow
4 UV
4 Indigo (415nm)

I think the Gen 2 is now on sale for $450... the upgrade to Pro is around $200. That beats paying $899 for a Pro out of the box. You might have to do the conversion yourself. Ecotech has how to video posted on their website for the conversion and it looks really simple.

This is what I will be doing when I upgrade my tank in the spring. Unless they lower the price on the Pro sometime soon.

I can't find the price now. But if its $300 for the upgrade, you still save over $200 than just buying a pro.

For what it's worth. I have three Radion Pro Fixtures over a 185G and they are so powerful that I have to run them at 60% or less. Yes, the additional colored LEDs are very nice but if you are not planning on having a lot of SPS you might just want to consider if the difference in price is worth it. You will be fine with the basic Radion or you can get crazy like me and buy the best of the best. Heck, it's just money. LOL

I would upgrade to a Pro first, then decide if you need another unit. When I bought my Pro I was able to demo and compare it to a Gen 1 and Vega. The daytime settings were about the same on all lights with the pro being a bit brighter. What sold me was the blue/uv settings. They absolutely made the corals pop and blew away the other fixtures in that setting.

Good idea. My big concern is I need my gen1 light running. I know they can send me a rebuilt pro while I keep my gen1, but I hope they don't send me a beat up one, cause my gen 1 is in awesome shape.

I think your referring to the loaner program for the pro upgrade. They will send you a loaner, but I believe they charge your cc for the full price of the light and refund upon return (minus the cost of the upgrade). I cant imagine the whole process taking anymore than 3 weeks to a month.

Check out the instructional video on the Pro upgrade. It looks very simple and you would not have to screw around with a loaner.

Radians wouldn't work with my tank due to my large pillars blocking too much light and causing major shadows. My t5 lit the whole tank up nicely so I'm staying with the t5's and going to supplement with some LED strips.

Looks easy enough, but where does Ecotech sell the cluster upgrade for the Pro?

I have seen it on their site in the past, but I just looked and could not find it. I would call Ecotech if you are looking to upgrade.
