Green/ brown tint to water

I started having a greenish brownish tiny to my water... I did some research and tried some things such as shutting off lights for a few days running activated charcoal and I'm bout to do a 20 percent a water change but my water is crysals clear after the light are off for a while... But the tint will come back slowly through out the day if the lights are on.... Any help would be appreciated

Several things can happen. There are microscopic algae that are suspended in the water, some being called phytoplankton. Bacteria usually give a whitish haze to the water. Tannins and other chemicals are released into the water as well; these coming from the die off of algae, bacteria, etc.

By saying that the water is clear when lights are off, makes me suspect that its the phytoplankton (algae) which is the culprit.

Carbon adsorbs many chemicals, algae and toxins, thus removing them from the water. It's a mechanical filtration process. Ozone will chemically alter the substances, making them essentially colorless. Ultraviolet light (UV Sterilizers) work in a similar fashion. Both the Ozone and UV also kill (if given enough contact time with the water) the algae and bacteria in the water.
