Which Trash Cans?
I have a 28g Nano tank but want to have some spare water for emergencies and was wondering what the best trash cans to use to store water? I have heard that Rubbermaid trash cans were common but I want to make sure they don't leach anything into the water.
Home depot has a current sale on Rubbermaid Roughneck 32g Black trash cans for $9.97. Would this be ok or would it be recommended to use only Grey Brute trash cans? Thanks |

I am a little worried now. I am using a green brute for RODI storage and a gray brute for mixed saltwater with a heater and powerhead. I have had no issues but I am curious to see if there are any phosphates leeching into the water being stored.

The grey Brute containers I know for a fact will not leach phosphates. I use two of them and love em! Not exactly sure about the green ones...

I'm going to have to grab a new gray one. I am reading that people say the green ones leech dyes into the water among other things.

Great! Thanks for the info. I'll make sure to use the Grey BRUTE containers only at this point so that there are no questions on safety.
Thank again! |

I would not confuse food safe with reef safe. Even if these containers leach some phosphate, it is trivial compared to the amount added in food.
