Salifert are a bit expensive, but some of the best kits out there. API is cheap, but work for the basics.

Basically get an API Master kit for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, and PH. Know that the PH is not very sensitive.

Get Salifert or something on the higher end for Alk, CA, Mg, and PO4.

Although API is reputed as not very accurate, they have been all I use and I thank them for saving me money. With the exception of my Mg test and my copper test, everything else is API. Surprisingly, also, their customer service has been really responsive as well...
Just my $0.02

Red Sea Pro CA ALK MG comes in one kit & is worthy of consideration. Easy to use, decent accuracy for hobby needs, replacement chemicals are available, clear instructions & on line video demonstrations if you need them. Nice ergonomics with the vial shaker thing & handy storage box. My only issue is the syringes wore out early but cheap to replace.
