Transporting and storing Live fish?
Im looking for a flasher wrasse and my LFS wont carry any because they are too fragile. Im going to my GF house 4 hours away and they have a LFS with some . It would be atmost 24 hours before he could be put In my tank. Probably 18-20hrs is there away to buy and care for one overnight before being brought home.

I agree the Flashers can be a little more sensitive than some other fish.
Why can't you just visit the fish store as the last stop on the way home after visiting the GF? 4 hours travel time is easy with a healthy fish. Ask the store to add oxygen & a drop of Prime to the bag. I'd put it in a small cooler for the trip home in such a way so the bag isn't rolling around & set the vehicle's temperature as close as possible to the fish store's water. I see temperature fluctuation as the biggest stressor you would face. Acclimate to the established QT as soon as you get home. In my view doing the 20 hour over night would be doable but more stressful. You'd need a bucket, heater, portable aeration on battery power or AC inverter & keep a watchful eye on the temps. Plus you risk paying more attention to the fish than the GF! Good luck. |
