What to do with $500 for Xmas?
So my wife is going to get me a $500+ Visa Gift Card for Christmas so I have been thinking constantly of what to get. My setup currently is a 28g JBJ CF Nano and there are 2 things left on my want list. An LED light and a Vortech MP10.
Now, I currently have everything I need to keep most LPS, softies, etc.... In fact, I have a Crocea that's been in my tank for a year or so and doing great with 105w of PC light but......................I have narrowed it down to this............. a) Radion XR30w Gen2 or b) Reef Breeders Photon16 and Vortech MP10Wes I am planning to eventually upgrade to a bigger tank but since I am renting currently, it won't be until my lease is up and we move into our own house which won't be for atleast 2-3 years. Either way, I plan to move/use equipment from this tank to the next. (eg. buy another Radion and MP40Wes for a 90g/120g) Which one would you get? Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks |

If you are content with your tank then open a savings account with it and start the upgrade fund. In a couple years you should be able to get whatever you need for an upgrade.

Sure it isn't the most sentimental or intimate gift but I'd much rather my spouse gave me a 500 gift card than spending 500 in the dark on something if she doesn't know as much about the equipment part of the hobby. My vote would also be to put it toward an upgrade account! |

option b
You'll be able to enjoy your $500 more, if you get 2 things vs. 1

Tell wife you would rather have a sweater and some jeans, maybe a pricey hoody too.

MP-10s are awesome pumps and the reefbreeders seem to get some decent reviews. I would go with Option B. Besides LEDs are changing daily so by the time December comes around, the Radions will be used as Christmas decorations. Pump technology is not moving anywhere near as fast.

I'd say option B as well... I have an MP10 in my biocube 29 and love it. While I am not running that LED fixture, I am running LED and am very happy with my results so far as well... it's been about 9 months and everything I've put into the tank seems to thrive.
